Transformed Living “All In” (Part 2)

The Principle of Compound Interest

You might think, “What’s that got to do with me? I don’t have a dad who is doubling a penny for me.” This is the principle of compound interest. The principle of compound interest spills over to virtually every area of our lives. Look at the following examples:

  1. If I were to read 10 pages of a book per day, like the penny, it won’t make much difference initially, but if done for 30 days that would be 300 pages per month. If you had chosen an exceptional Christian book, or a great self-help book, you could have read one or two books that month. If consistently done for one year, you could have taken in life-changing information from 12 to 24 books.
  2. If you were to read 10 verses per day from the Bible, that would convert to 300 verses per month. In one month’s time you would be able to read Galatians and Ephesians. In 2 months more you could have added Philippians, Colossians and Romans. The power of compound interest could change your life.
  3. If you were to commit 12 minutes per day consistently to a new exercise regimen called The Surge, you could transform your physical state of being.
  4. You might say I can’t double myself every day. If you committed to increase yourself .003% per day at the end of a year you would have grown 100%.
  5. Studies have shown if you study one topic one hour per day, for five years, you will be an expert on that topic.

The point is that it is easy to do and it is easy not to do. True transformation comes from making simple choices daily. It’s easy to do…and it’s easy not to do. The simple error of judgment compounded over time will absolutely destroy, hinder or limit your life. The simplicity of right choices daily will catapult you to untold success. Successful people are willing to do what unsuccessful people are unwilling to do. This is how the tortoise was able to beat the hare in the famous parable. Transformation is not a quick fix, but comes from good choices done consistently. Somehow, “all in” is easier when you break it into bite-sized bits.
